Spectator Business Department Recruitments: Fall 2016 at The Spectator Business Department

The Business department of The Spectator raises 100% of the funds needed to uphold the production of the paper. We acquire paid advertisements, sponsorships and donations, plan fundraising events, and manage all of the paper's finances. The Business department is the backbone of The Spectator.

List three specific companies (all of different categories) that you would immediately contact if you were accepted into Spectator Business and write a three sentence pitch for each selling them an advertisement. Avoid SAT tutoring centers and food places. *

How would you start a conversation with a prospective business over the phone? *

Say you were trying to convince the owner of Terry's to place an advertisement in our newspaper. How would you start the conversation? How do you catch their attention? What are some things that they should know? How would you tailor your pitch to their needs? How would you interact with this owner if he says he is too busy? Or that he is not interested? *

What is the most important thing in business: efficiency, follow-ups, selling points/pitches, confidence, timeliness or urgency? Pick one and explain. *

Tell us about one idea you would like to implement as an alternate source of revenue for The Spectator besides advertisements. Explain how you would execute this idea. (Do not use apparel sales, raffles, bake sales, or anything that involves food) *
